FAQ

Travel

  • The wedding will take place in Sintra, which is a beautiful town about 30-40 minutes from Lisbon (and the airport). Sintra is a major tourist destination full of palaces, castles and parks, so there is no shortage of hotels and Airbnbs in the area. However, Lisbon is the major city with lots more affordable options, and we recommend staying there as a home base.

Either would be a great choice — it really just depends on how you want to spend your time. Transportation from Lisbon to Sintra is very convenient, please see below.

  • We recommend using Uber or Bolt, which is European Uber. Check your email for an Uber voucher to cover the costs. There will be plenty of rides available late at night after the reception/party, but you can always schedule one in advance to be safe.

If you really want to take public transportation, there is also a train from downtown Lisbon to Sintra that takes about 40 minutes and runs every 15-20 minutes during peak hours. However, you’ll have to take an Uber or tuk tuk to get from Sintra station to Quinta da Bella Vista.

If you are renting a car, there will be free parking at the venue as well. Keep in mind that the road leading to the venue is a one-way, so be sure not to miss it on your right hand side. If you do, it’ll take another 30 minutes to loop back around!

  • Most hotels in Sintra and Lisbon are small boutique hotels, and there are lots of great Airbnbs available, so we’ve opted to provide flexibility for everyone instead. Feel free to book whatever works best for you and your schedule.

While there are some accommodations at the venue, there is unfortunately only enough space for close family and friends. We really appreciate everyone taking the time and effort to travel for this event!

  • Sorry, I don’t get a shareable discount 😞. Here’s a pro-tip though: if you’re a Delta frequent flier, book through this link to earn 1 mile for every dollar spent on Airbnb.

Also, if you have any major issues with your stay, please let me know and I can escalate.

  • The wedding itself will take place on June 27th starting at 5pm, but we’d love to see you at the optional Welcome Event the day before on the 26th! If it works for your schedule, you should try to be in town for those two days.

  • Prices will vary over the next few months but we’d recommend booking at least 2-3 months in advance.

  • For most of us, no. You can double check the EU visa requirements here.

Previously, there were new requirements for travel to Europe for citizens of the US or other visa-exempt countries slated to roll out in 2024, but those have been pushed back to 2025.

As always, make sure your passport is up to date. If it expires within six months of the travel date, you may not be able to travel. Remember to check and kick off the renewal process sooner rather than later.

Wedding Day

  • The dress code is formal or black tie optional. See the general guide here. We suggest women wear a floor-length gown, a fancy cocktail dress, or a dressy pantsuit. Men should wear a suit with a tie or bow tie. Tuxedos are not required but we’re not stopping you! More guidance on this dress code can be found here.

  • Temperatures in Sintra in late June range from mid 70s (°F) during the day to low 60s at night. Keep in mind that the ceremony will take place outside during the daytime but dinner and reception will be indoors in a greenhouse. Also, the sun will set at around 9pm in June.

  • Please plan to get to Quinta da Bella Vista by 5pm at the latest so we have enough time to get situated before the ceremony.

  • Check out the When & Where page for more details about the schedule of events!

  • During the welcome event, we’ll have a wide selection of food and drinks available. You probably don’t have to worry about eating lunch beforehand.

On the wedding day, there will be passed canapés during cocktail hour, plated dinner, as well as midnight snacks. There will also be an open bar that you should totally take advantage of.

Thanks for sharing your dietary restrictions! We are keeping those in mind.

  • We’re partying until at least 2:30am! Be ready to dance 🕺💃

  • Everyone is welcome to bring a plus-one (or a significant other, of course) to all events! Please just make sure to include them in your RSVP by March 27.

  • We know everyone is spending a lot of time and money to travel to Portugal, so just being there with us would be the greatest gift we could receive. As A$AP Rocky says, “[y]our presence is a present, just to kick it is a blessing.”

  • The most important thing for us is for all of our friends to come together in one place, since that’ll probably never happen again in our lives. No matter where we decided to celebrate though, we would end up with a “destination wedding”, since folks would have to travel from all around the world. So we thought, “why not have it in Europe?”

We love Portugal because it's beautiful and romantic with tons of history, and the city of Lisbon is actually quite similar to San Francisco, where we fell in love ❤️. We hope everyone will take advantage of being in this amazing place and do some exploring of your own!

  • We arrive in Lisbon on June 24th and leave on June 29th. We don’t have much planned yet so if you wanna hang out let us know!

  • Feel free to just text us!
